FixTheFanLine?
The Harrisburg Patriot News is the leading newspaper serving the “Midstate” Pennsylvania region (Harrisburg-Lancaster-York-etc). Readers can call-in to the newspaper’s telephone hotline, “The Fan Line”, and record their opinion on any matter within the sporting world.
Every morning, on Page 2 of their Sports section, the Patriot News prints several calls recorded on the “The Fan Line,” from the previous day.
These excerpts are especially interesting because in most cases, the opinions that are printed are either factually incorrect or they don’t represent the majority of its readership. While many readers find the posts within “The Fan Line” frustrating, Page 2 is probably one of the most read pages of the newspaper.
FixTheFanLine.com’s purpose is two-fold. First, FixTheFanLine aims to showcase the extremity (and humor) of some peoples’ opinions. Second, FixTheFanLIne is a forum for rebuttals against certain calls that are blatantly inaccurate.
Although many of these calls are idiotic and unfounded (and even if the callers don’t really mean what they’re saying and are just trying to evoke a response from readers)… it’s still a lot of fun to correct the inaccuracies that the Fan Line presents.
I hope that you enjoy our responses to these calls and our efforts to FixTheFanLine.

1. October 2008 | 20:45 hWhile I appreciate what you are trying to do, I think you take the fan line a little too seriously. Most of those calls are people looking to get someone riled. Some of the comments that appear are probably even planted to increase readership. Can’t you see Horvath or Jones planting some comments?

While it’s probably true that a majority of the Fan Line comments are either originated from people who don’t really mean what they’re saying or they’re “manufactured” from the Patriot News’ staff, it’s still fun to correct and/or respond to the calls.
Regardless of the source/intent of the calls, I think it’s important to “fix the fan line.”
